Federal Employees and Contractors Oral History Project

Since January 2025, the federal workforce has undergone and continues to experience changes that are unprecedented in recent U.S. history. In response, OAH is launching an oral history initiative to document the experiences of federal workers and federal contractors affected by these shifts. These recorded histories will serve as a vital resource for historians and the public, offering insight into the lives and contributions of our nation’s federal workers, and documenting these stories for future generations. Working with oral historian and former federal employee Dr. Jason M. Chernesky, OAH is currently in the first phase of this project: gathering potential participants. Please circulate the survey as widely as possible. The link is below. If you’re interested in volunteering, as an interviewer, please fill out the form and explain in the comments section your willingness to volunteer.
